November 22, 2025, was a day when Calabar, Cross River, stood still as the Duke Royal House – one of the most prominent royal houses in the Efik Eburutu Kingdom, driving development and cultural continuity – formally conferred the distinguished title of Eka Ufok Duke (Mother of Duke House) on Chief Dr. Emana Duke Amawhe during a culturally significant ceremony attended by traditional leaders, government officials, and community representatives. Several other distinguished personalities were also honored, reflecting the community’s broader recognition of service and contribution.
Cultural presentations from various communities enriched the day, showcasing the heritage of the Efik people and highlighting the unity that characterizes such traditional milestones.

Following the formal investiture, Chief Dr. Emana Duke Amawhe hosted a reception, which recorded an exceptional turnout. The notable gathering of dignitaries included the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem; Chief Emmanuel Ironbar, Chief of Staff to the Governor; Prof. Offiong E. Offiong, VC-Elect, University of Calabar; Hon. Effiom Bassey, Chairman of Akpabuyo LGA; High Chief Edem Duke, former Minister of Culture and Tourism; HE Florence Dan Archibong;
Hon Abasi Abasi, Member representing Akpabuyo Lga and other Members of the State Assembly, princess binta, Calabar Director FTZE Commissioners; Directors-General; and respected traditional authorities, among others.
The guests, who were entertained with good music, colorful cultural displays, and a resplendent array of food and drinks, remained well into the evening – demonstrating their goodwill, solidarity, and shared joy at the occasion.
The conferment of Eka Ufok Duke, meaning Mother of Duke House, stands as a formal acknowledgment of Chief Dr. Emana Duke Amawhe’s contributions to community development, leadership, and the preservation of cultural identity. With this honor, she joins the lineage of custodians committed to upholding the values, heritage, and advancement of the Efik Eburutu Kingdom.
