The Cross River State Microfinance and Enterprise Development Agency (MEDA) has pledged its full support for the upcoming 2025 World Skate-thon Championship, scheduled for April 17th. A delegation from the Calabar Skate-thon paid a courtesy visit to MEDA Director General, Great Ogban, who enthusiastically endorsed the event, recognizing its potential to drive economic growth and showcase the state’s vibrant culture.
“This administration’s people-centric approach is dedicated to empowering our citizens,” stated DG Ogban. “The Skate-thon presents a significant opportunity for small businesses to thrive, providing a platform to market their products to a global audience.”
Team Lead, Collins Eko, highlighted the event’s historical significance, tracing its origins back 400 years to Italy. He emphasized the championship’s role in promoting Cross River State’s tourism and solidifying its position as the birthplace of African skating championships. “We anticipate 2,000 skaters from over nine countries, a substantial increase from the 500 participants from four African nations at the previous edition,” Eko revealed. “Furthermore, this event offers our skaters the chance to elevate their skills with advanced training opportunities in Germany.”
The delegation included prominent On-Air-Personality, Fidelis Ubana, who acknowledged MEDA’s impactful contributions to the state. The Skate-thon is also poised to engage the youth population in sports and recreation, fostering a healthy and active community.
