COMMISSIONER FOR HEALTH REACT ON THE STATUS OF SCHOOL OF NURSING OGOJA AS A COLLEGE IN CRS

Our attention has been drawn to a spurious and grossly misleading publication on social media titled \”Passionate Appeal For The College Of Nursing Ogoja To Retain It\’s Status\”.

We would ordinarily not respond to this peice which is misleading, misinforming and obviously a misrepresentation of facts and records geared towards inciting, stoking and fanning the embers of disaffection between the people and the government and thereby heating up the polity.

But for purpose of clarity and setting the records right on factual truth that is being hoarded and a dire Information to guide the general public which the current administration owes a duty we wish to state ;

  1. That there is no college known as COLLEGE OF NURSING OGOJA, rather the regulatory body Nursing and Midwifery Council Of Nigeria (NMCN) gave approval to the CRSG to run two(2) extra colleges to include ; College of Nursing Calabar to consist of school of Nursing Calabar and school of Midwifery Calabar while the college of Nursing Sciences Obudu was beamed to consist of school of Nursing Ogoja, School of Midwifery Monaiya and School Of Midwifery Obudu. Considering the available resources of Manpower in these schools .
  2. There is NO PLAN or CONTEMPLATION by the Governor H.E Sen.Prof.Ben Ayade or the Honourable Commissioner For Health- Dr. Janet Ekpenyong to relocate the school of Nursing as speculated on social media from Ogoja to Obudu. Rather in a bid to beat the NMCN deadline of closure of schools, the Honourable Commisioner For Health is working assiduously to ensuring that no school in the state is lost but that School of Nursing Ogoja like other two (2) schools in the Northern Senatorial District operate and coexist as a college of Nursing Obudu following the NMCN assessment and approval of 22nd June, 2022 and this is without moving, relocating or closing the school(s) in the North or Ogoja particularly to Obudu as all existing schools and structures remains.
  3. On recognition of College Of Nursing Ogoja and her Governing Board, it is laughable to attribute non recognition of a non-existent College to the Governor or the Honourable Commissioner For Health. It is the Nursing and Midwifery Council that approves and recognizes Colleges.

The Commissioner only recommends appointments for any novel colleges to His Excellency for appointments. The simple question begging for answer should be who recommends appointments to His Excellency ?

For the records H.E Sen.Prof. Ben Ayade has over time magnanimously concentrated programmes in Ogoja by converting and collapsing all post Basic Programs in the state and this is evident as only the school of Midwifery Monaiya in Ogoja has the following ;

i. Post Basic Midwifery in CRS
ii. Basic Midwifery Programme
iii. Community Midwifery
iv. Midwifery Refreshers Programme

Also worthy of note is that in pursuance of requirements to achieving the Collegiate System in CRS, the State Government has put in concerted efforts in ;

  • Pursuing Advisory Visit by Regulatory Council (NMCN&NBTE)
  • Obtained Approval from councils to establish two (2) additional colleges in the Southern and Northern Senatorial Districts
  • Approved appointments of governing Council for two (2) colleges
  • Approved 100% retention of internally generated revenue .

The general public is hereby advised to disregard any falsehood on the social media and stay calm as there is no plan of relocating the existing schools in the Northern Senatorial District or Ogoja particularly to Obudu or anywhere else as wrongly speculated.
