Confusion Trails Sanitation Exercise as Residents Struggle With Waste Disposal Rules in Cross River

Residents have expressed concern over the current sanitation practice where they are required to keep refuse in their homes until 6 p.m. – 10pm before disposal.

According to eyewitnesses, members of the sanitation taskforce reportedly seized waste containers and allegedly harassed individuals who attempted to dispose of refuse earlier in the day after cleaning their surroundings.

This situation has raised questions, as many of the public bins remain filled with refuse despite the directive that disposal should only begin by 6 p.m.

This has left citizens confused is waste still being dumped after the mandated time, or are the existing rules impractical?

Stakeholders are therefore calling on the Environmental Taskforce and relevant government agencies to urgently review and adjust the policy to ensure that the sanitation exercise truly achieves its purpose without causing unnecessary hardship to the people.
