C\’RIVER ASSEMBLY TO SYNERGIZE WITH THE POLICE ON SECURITY

 

The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Elvert Ayambem has expressed the Assembly\’s readiness to synergize with the Nigerian Police Force on the fight against insecurity.

Ayambem was speaking when he led some lawmakers on a familiarisation visit to Commissioner of Police, CRS Command, in his office at the Command Headquarters, Calabar.

The Speaker commended the efforts of the police in the fight against criminality and insecurity in the State and urged them to intensify their efforts in the face of rising crime rate across the State.

The Speaker further urged the police to extend it\’s services to rural areas in all the Local Government Areas of the State while assuring them of the Assembly\’s readiness to partner with them to improve security in the State.

Responding, the Commissioner of Police, CP Gyogona A Grimah, thanked the Speaker and other Lawmakers for the visit.

CP Grimah reiterated the need for the Lawmakers to partner with the Heads of the security outfits in their various constituencies like the Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to curb criminality and youth restiveness.

The Police Commissioner bemoaned the lawlessness of some youths which he maintained must be checked. He cited a recent case where some youths stormed a police station forcefully removed some suspects from police custody and killed them. He reiterated the need for people to allow the law to take it\’s course.
