Cross River Government Spotlight Initiative Seal Pact to Extend Programme Implementation in the State
The Cross River State Ministry of International Development Cooperation (MIDC), on Wednesday held a stakeholders\’ meeting to review programme implementation of Spotlight Initiative in the state.
Spotlight Initiative is a global program responsible for gender equality and social development of the girl child and eliminating all forms of violence against women and girls under the auspices of 5 United Nations Agencies – UNFPA, ILO, UNICEF, UNDP and UN-WOMEN.
The meeting was convened at the Conference Hall of the Marian Hotels Calabar by the Commissioner for International Development Cooperation, Dr Inyang Asibong. The MIDC Commissioner highlighted the objectives to include, presentation of an overview of spotlight implementation with a view to improving and expanding the program, providing a platform for routine updates of implementation status, working out modalities to maintain effective coordination for the Spotlight programme under the DaO.
Asibong reiterated the mandate of the MIDC to the Spotlight initiative in providing administrative support and basic useful data where necessary, while assuring of the total commitment of the Senator Prof. Ben Ayade led Cross River State government.
The MIDC Commissioner eulogised the UN Agencies for the robust support thus far in coordinating and enhancing the smooth Implementation of the program in the state.
Other highlights of the meeting was presentation of work plans by the various implementing sub units for the 2022 Year and policy reviews carried out in the last quarter.
