Cross River State Police Command clarify reports alleging political intimidation by the Area Commander, Ogoja.
The Command categorically states that the allegation is unfounded and does not reflect the true situation.
A defection rally organized by a former Vice Chairman of Ogoja LGA, Mr. Emmanuel Idi Yakubu, was scheduled on the same day and location as the APC Local Government Congress election. Police advised the organizers to reschedule to prevent tension, but they insisted on proceeding.
During the rally, participants blocked a major highway, prompting the deployment of smoke canisters to restore order. Eleven (11) persons were arrested and released on bail the same day.
The Area Commander acted under the directive of the Commissioner of Police to maintain public safety and ensure peaceful political activity. The Nigeria Police Force remains neutral and committed to enforcing the law while protecting all citizens.
