The Special Assistant to the Governor of Cross River State on Nursing, Mr. Coco-Bassey Esu, recently visited Eja Memorial Hospital ,Itigidi Abi to assess patient care, nursing training, and staff nurses’ welfare. During his visit, he emphasized the need for standardization in patient care, suggesting initiatives like outreach programs and campaigns to attract more patients.
Mr. Coco-Bassey highlighted key areas for improvement, including prioritizing patient care, maintaining a clean and visually appealing environment, and re-establishing the Paediatric Ward. He also stressed the importance of collaboration with clinical instructors and collegiate standards of training for students, using updated practices in nursing.
Additionally, Mr. Coco-Bassey announced that the state government has lifted the ban on employing health workers for the first badge, allowing for new staff to fill gaps left by departing employees. He urged nurses to remain dedicated to their duties, assuring them that Governor Sen Otu is committed to addressing staff welfare concerns, including resolving salary-related issues and promotion issues.
The Medical Superintendent, Dr. Ogbaji Anthony Ogar, assured Mr. Coco-Bassey of his commitment to working with other health workers and the college to maintain high standards of training and practice. Dr. Ogar noted that he and other workers are available 24/7 to provide services, including specialist care in eye care, obstetrics, and gynecology.
The Head of Nursing Services, Mr. Emogor Nicholas Eze, thanked Mr. Coco-Bassey for visiting and interacting with the nurses, assuring him of the nurses’ dedication to duty and the training of student nurses.
