CALABAR RIVER: A SAFE AND SECURE WATERWAY

The Department of Marine Services, Cross River State, wish to address the recent concerns regarding the safety of the Calabar River. Contrary to certain reports, the Calabar River remains a very safe and secure waterway for all users. The unfortunate incident that occurred on Easter Friday took place at the boundary between Cross River State and Akwa Ibom State.

We urge the public to disregard the misinformation circulating on some media platforms, including Channels Television, suggesting that the Calabar River is unsafe. This reportage is not only misleading but also has the potential to undermine the confidence of users of calabar river.

Please note that operators of reputable marine companies, including Abito and Sea Express, have expressed satisfaction with the security measures put in place along the Calabar River. Their confidence in our security arrangements is a testament to the effectiveness of our collaborative efforts.
