DR. EDEM EBONG, SPECIAL ADVISER, COOPERATIVE SOCIETIES COORDINATION TO THE GOVERNOR, CROSS RIVER STATE AND OTHERS BAGGED AWARD OF EXCELLENCE
The city of Calabar witnessed a grand reunion on Saturday, 12th October 2024, as the prestigious Institute of Public Policy and Administration (IPPA) of the University of Calabar held its much-anticipated Alumni Homecoming. The event, themed “Public Policy and National Development: Reuniting for Impact,” attracted prominent figures from the public and private sectors, many of whom are distinguished alumni of the institute
One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of awards to illustrious alumni who have significantly contributed to public service, academia, and national development. Among the recipients was Dr. Edem Ebong, who was honored with the Award of Excellence for his outstanding contributions to public administration and governance. His leadership and commitment to development initiatives, especially in Cross River State, have earned him great admiration.
The keynote address was delivered by former IPPA Director, Prof. C.C. Ikeji, who spoke on the theme “Public Policy and National Development: Reuniting for Impact.” In his speech, Prof. Ikeji emphasized the critical role that well-formulated and effectively implemented public policies play in shaping national development. He called on alumni to leverage their experiences and networks to collaborate on initiatives that drive socio-economic growth and enhance governance across Nigeria. “Reuniting today is not just a celebration but a call to action for us to influence public policy at every level and ensure that our contributions leave a lasting impact,” he remarked.
Also in attendance were the Pro-Chancellor of University of Calabar, DIG Ekpoudom Rtd, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi, who were another distinguished recipients of the Award of Excellence. The Vice-Chancellor on behalf of this category of recipients expressed pride in the achievements of IPPA alumni and urged them to remain steadfast in their service to the nation and humanity.
Other notable awardees included Hon. Emmanuel Ironbar, Chief of Staff to the Governor of Cross River State, who was recognized for his political leadership and commitment to public service, and the Accountant General of Cross River State, Mrs. Glory Tony Effiong who received an award for exemplary service in fiscal management and governance.
The event was a true celebration of excellence, with speeches, awards, and reunions serving as a reminder of the profound influence that public policy professionals can have in shaping the future of society. The attendees were charged with continuing to promote good governance and using their platforms to influence policy reforms for national development.
As the event drew to a close, there was a renewed sense of commitment among the alumni to use their expertise and leadership for the collective good, fostering development both in Cross River State and the nation at large.
