The Nigerian Publishers Association (NPA) has conferred the prestigious title of "Fellow of the Publishers Institute of Nigeria (PIN)" on the Managing Director of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) Printing Press, Dr. Sunday Mathias.

Dr. Asein’s insightful presentation explored how AI technologies are reshaping the publishing landscape, with emphasis on their implications for content creators, publishers, and copyright policies.

A robust panel discussion followed, delving deeper into the keynote’s themes, with Mr. David Oluwagbami, Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, University of Lagos (UNILAG), Dr. Mrs. Chika Yinka-Banjo, a Computer Science expert from UNILAG, and Engr. Ifeanyi Avajah, the immediate past Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Lagos State, as penalists.

These discussions provided valuable perspectives on how the publishing industry can leverage artificial intelligence while addressing challenges such as intellectual property rights and ethical considerations.

The event attracted prominent personalities from the publishing and academic sectors. Chief Uchenna Cyril Anioke, Ph.D., President and Chairman-in-Council of the Nigerian Publishers Association, served as the host, while the Executive Governor of Lagos State, H.E. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, graced the occasion as the Special Guest of Honour.

The event also benefited from the expertise of Alhaji Jaiyeola, fca, former President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), who served as Chairman of the Occasion.

The conferment is a pointer to Dr Sunday Mathias innovativeness, resourcefulness, and a commitment to excellence, which has elevated the unit to new heights, positioning it as a model of efficiency within and beyond the university.
