The Special Assistant to the Governor on Gender Mainstreaming, Ms. Utibe-Abasi Bassey-Duke at the Gender Appreciation Walk, has praised Governor Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu for his transformative efforts in promoting gender equality and inclusive governance across Cross River State.
Speaking at a Gender appreciation walk event, Ms. Bassey-Duke stated that the gathering was organized to thank the Governor for his bold, unprecedented actions in advancing gender inclusion and empowering historically marginalized groups, especially women and vulnerable populations.
She highlighted the creation of the Department of Gender Mainstreaming a first in the state’s history as a major milestone in embedding gender considerations into all levels of governance. According to her, the appointment of Gender Desk Officers in all 18 Local Government Areas and the introduction of gender-responsive budgeting at the grassroots level further demonstrate the administration’s commitment to institutional reform and inclusive development.
Ms. Bassey-Duke also commended the Governor for initiating the state’s first-ever Men’s Summit, which she described as a groundbreaking platform for men to engage in conversations about community building and gender inclusion.
“This is truly the Season of Sweetness, and we are confident that the progress we’re witnessing must continue,” she said, affirming the collective support of gender advocates across the state for Governor Otu’s re-election in 2027.
