A House of Representatives 2027 aspirant of Obudu, Obanliku and Bekwara Constuency, Dr. Godwin Agbor (KSM), has extended heartfelt sympathy to families and victims affected by the gas explosion that occurred on Saturday, March 21, 2026, in Calabar.
In a statement released on Monday, Dr. Agbor described the incident as a painful reminder of the shared vulnerability of communities, noting that the suffering of any part of the state is a concern to all. He stressed that compassion and responsibility must not be defined by local government boundaries, especially in Calabar, the state capital, which represents the collective identity of Cross River State.
He expressed deep concern for those who lost loved ones, sustained injuries, or experienced damage to their homes and livelihoods, stating that their pain is felt across the state. According to him, moments such as this call for sincere empathy and practical support for those in need.
Dr. Godwin Agbor commended the Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Edet Otu, for his prompt visit to the scene and his show of care and leadership. He noted that such actions provide comfort to affected families and strengthen public confidence in government.
He further called on emergency responders and relevant authorities to sustain relief efforts, ensure proper medical care for victims, and carry out a careful investigation into the cause of the explosion. He emphasized that safeguarding lives and property must remain a priority at all times.
Reaffirming his commitment to the welfare of the people, Dr. Agbor stated that leadership must be guided by empathy, fairness, and a readiness to stand with citizens in difficult moments, regardless of location.
He encouraged residents of Calabar South to remain resolute, assuring them that their safety and well-being will continue to receive attention and advocacy.
