The Senior Special Advisers on Political Affairs to Gov. Bassey Edet Otu, Associate Professor Jake Otu Enyia has called on eligible Cross Riverians and residents alike to register and obtain their permanent voters cards from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), ongoing continuous voters registration exercise to enable voting credible candidates during elections.
The teacher of Law turned public servant noted that despite the huge youths demography, numerical strength and landmass, the state consistently records low voters turnout in elections circles, a feature of non compliance to electoral guidelines.
The Special Adviser argued that the culture of electoral apathy is impacting negatively on the state in national politics.
The Boki born politician called on both government appointees, religious leaders, civil society organizations, party chieftains and other critical stakeholders in Cross River State to intensify sensitization efforts across polling units, wards, LGAs and state level with a view to stern the ugly tide, adding that the right to vote and be voted for is a fundamental right and step to enthrone good governance.
