In a significant development for the gaming industry in Cross River State, the Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Bassey Edet Otu has signed the Cross River State Lotteries and Gaming Agency Law 2025. This law establishes a regulatory framework for gaming, lotteries, and gambling activities within the state, ensuring transparency, fairness, and responsible operation.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, the governor noted that the gaming and regulatory law is important because a lot of potential revenue is lost without proper regulations in place. He described the law as timely and strategic.
Speaking further, the speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly Rt. Hon Elvert Ayambem noted that the legislation is in line with a Supreme Court ruling which empowers states to regulate gaming activities. The 12 parts law and 102 schedules creates a framework for managing, licensing and generating revenue from the gaming industry in Cross River State.
In a brief interview with the Director General of the Agency, Mr Michael Eja, he expressed delight towards the governor’s decision to sign this law which he noted aligns with the governor’s “People First” agenda, prioritizing citizens’ welfare and protection.

He also thanked the House of Assembly for its support for this law noting that their efforts demonstrates their commitment to responsible governance.
