In his welcome address, Hon. Ekpo Tete, Special Assistant on Youth Mobilization (South) to the Governor of Cross River State, expressed deep gratitude to Governor Bassey Otu for entrusting him with his role. He praised the governor’s commitment to creating an environment that enables meaningful youth engagement across the Southern Senatorial District.
Hon. Tete highlighted his commitment to youth development through training initiatives, noting that over twenty youths across the district have received free training in areas like fashion design and generator repairs. He also announced plans to expand the program with a second batch of trainees, offering training in makeup artistry, gele tying, automobile repairs, driving, and lalle design.
The event featured a keynote address from Pastor J.I. Okoro, who applauded Hon. Tete’s efforts and encouraged youths to adopt strong leadership values while prioritizing faith. He emphasized that a foundation built on integrity and positive choices can shape a brighter future.
Prof. Anefiok Edet, a prominent speaker at the event, stressed the importance of education, describing it as a powerful tool for transformation and national progress. “Without education, there’s no meaningful development,” she stated, underscoring the value of investing in youth development for the betterment of society.
The Senior Special Adviser on Agriculture, Prof. John Shieyam, inspired attendees by encouraging young people to see themselves as assets to their communities. He emphasized agriculture as a sustainable income source and announced the availability of free agricultural loans provided by the state, designed to empower youths to become financially self-sufficient.
Representing the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Senate President, Dr. Ekpe Itita encouraged youth to maintain a positive mindset and outlook, asserting that a constructive approach to life’s challenges can lead to better outcomes for overall well-being. Dr. Theophilus Osim addressed the dangers of drug use, urging young people to steer clear of substances that could harm their mental and physical health, stressing that avoiding such habits is key to personal and societal growth.
Hon. Ekpo Tete invited Hon. Barr. Ijom Ukam, Commissioner for Youths, to officially inaugurate the new training batch. Barr. Ukam advised the youth to actively apply what they have learned and to take ownership of their future, urging them to be proactive and committed to their skill development. Following his motivational remarks, he formally launched the training programs, marking a new chapter for the participants.
The event concluded with an award presentation to distinguished attendees, followed by a photo session celebrating the successful empowerment initiative.
