As the 9th edition of the National Youth Games (NYG) 2025 kicks off, participating states are expected to arrive in Delta State between 27th and 28th August. Cross River State is among the states duly enrolled to participate in the competition.
During the departure of the state’s athletes from Calabar, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Sports Development, Hon. Ekanem Ekpenyong, who represented both the Governor of Cross River State and the Commissioner for Sports Development, Mrs. Agnes Atsu, addressed the athletes.
He urged them to remain disciplined, obey instructions, and stay focused on winning as their ultimate goal. He reassured the athletes that the state government has provided full financial support to ensure their comfort throughout the competition.
Hon. Ekpenyong also encouraged the coaches and other team officials to keep victory in sight, stressing that Cross River State must be counted among the top-performing states in athletics.

This year’s National Youth Games will be hosted in Asaba, the capital of Delta State, with athletes from across the country converging for the event.

Cross River State will be competing in 17 sporting events, including swimming, football, golf, volleyball, soccer, boxing, wrestling, judo, karate, taekwondo, tennis, among others.
The Special Adviser wished the athletes, coaches, and staff a safe journey and expressed confidence that they would return home with victories for the state.
