On November 4, 2024, the people of Yakurr Local Government Area placed their trust in Hon. Yibala Igri Inyang, entrusting him with the responsibility to lead with sincerity, empathy, and vision. One year later, the Executive Chairman of Yakurr LGA, Cross River State, marks his first anniversary in office, reflecting on a year of tangible progress, impactful leadership, and renewed hope for the people of Yakurr.
According to Hon. Inyang, the journey so far has been driven by a simple promise to serve the people with sincerity, bring governance closer to the grassroots, and ensure every ward feels the presence of government. Through the collective will of the people and the grace of God, that promise is gradually becoming reality across multiple sectors.

INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT
From the onset, Hon. Inyang made a clear commitment that every council ward would experience infrastructural development before the end of his tenure. Within just one year, several projects have already been executed, including:

Renovation of the Council Secretariat and installation of a solar-powered pipe-borne water system for sustainability.

Emergency intervention at the Yakurr Peace Stadium, Ugep, with the construction of a new pavilion to enhance sports and community activities.

HEALTH SECTOR
Health remains a central priority under Hon. Inyang’s leadership. His administration has partnered with the Ijiman community to establish a Model Primary Health Care Centre and is collaborating with the Cross River State Government to enroll indigent residents of Yakurr into the State Health Insurance Scheme.
This partnership ensures that even the most vulnerable residents have access to affordable and quality healthcare services.
YOUTH AND SPORTS DEVELOPMENT
Recognizing that youths are the engine of Yakurr’s future, the administration has rolled out several empowerment programs. Dozens of young people have received hair clippers, solar installation kits, sewing machines, and ICT tools, enabling them to start or expand their small businesses.
In the area of sports, Hon. Inyang has revived the Yakurr United Football Team, providing players with new jerseys, boots, kits, and a monthly stipend to motivate and sustain their passion for the game.
AGRICULTURE SECTOR
Through the Office of the Wife of the Chairman, local farmers have been supported with farm chemicals and fumigation sprayers, helping to improve crop yield, enhance productivity, and promote modern agricultural practices among smallholder farmers.
EDUCATION SECTOR
To promote academic excellence and ease the burden on parents, Hon. Inyang approved bursaries for 5 students from each of the 13 council wards, totaling 65 university students across Nigeria.
Payments are scheduled to begin in January, reaffirming his commitment to equitable educational support for all wards in Yakurr.
ECONOMIC SUPPORT
Understanding the financial challenges facing many households, the administration has provided ₦10 million in financial assistance to constituents for urgent personal and family needs — a clear demonstration that governance must have a human face.
PEACE AND SECURITY OF
Peace and stability remain the cornerstone of Hon. Inyang’s administration. Through collaboration with traditional rulers, youth leaders, and security agencies, Yakurr has maintained one of the most peaceful environments in Cross River State.
By promoting dialogue, inclusiveness, and proactive crisis management, the council continues to foster unity and understanding across communities.
