Joy in Cross River North as Higgins Peters Fulfills Lifelong Support Promise to Traditional Rulers

Written by calabarGist

Waves of joy and prayers have swept across Cross River North as the traditional institutions of all five LGAs celebrate the fulfillment of a major promise by High Chief Higgins Peters.

On September 6, 2025 during the Bekwarra New Yam Festival and his chieftaincy conferment High Chief Higgins Peters pledged to augment the monthly allowances of Paramount Rulers and Clan Heads across the northern senatorial district:

₦20,000 monthly for each Paramount Ruler

₦10,000 monthly for every Clan Head
— for life.

On November 22, 2025, he fulfilled this commitment by paying three months upfront (November, December, and January) to over 120 Clan Heads and all 5 Paramount Rulers.

One Paramount Ruler noted that in his over 20 years on the throne, no leader or politician has ever shown such generosity and commitment to the traditional institution.

This is yet another case of promise made, promise kept, a signature trait of High Chief Higgins Peters.

Love him or not, his impact on Cross River’s socio-political landscape remains undeniable.

Long live the Emoma and “Akpa Owo” of Yala, the “Uni Ukpere” of Bekwarra, and the Natural Leader of the North.
