On Saturday, November 2, local government elections in Cross River State proceeded smoothly, with strong voter participation observed across numerous polling stations statewide.

The state governor, accompanied by his wife, cast his vote at the Adiabo–Ukotikang polling unit located at Govt. Primary School Adiabo Efut. He expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would secure victory in the elections.

Local and international observers monitored the elections and praised the peaceful atmosphere and efficient process. Security personnel were strategically deployed throughout the state to safeguard voters and election workers.

Governor Otu, a member of the APC, voiced confidence in the party’s potential to win the majority of seats across the state’s eighteen local government councils, crediting the party’s popularity and commitment to good governance.

“We believe that Cross River residents will support the APC, as they see us as a party dedicated to fulfilling its promises,” said Governor Otu. “Our candidates in the councils understand the importance of aligning with the state government’s vision and are dedicated to ensuring good governance.”

Numbers of Parties that participated for the Cross River State local government elections:

Nine opposition parties also participated in the elections, although they did not field candidates in all of the 196 wards across the 18 local government areas.

The Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC) is expected to announce the results within 48 hours.

The previous local government elections were held in 2020.

An observer in Calabar South remarked that the peaceful conduct of the elections marks a positive step forward for the state, saying, “It highlights the commitment of both the government and the people of Cross River to democratic values.”
