The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu is meeting with the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU to resolve over 6months old strike in public universities.
The meeting is at the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari to address the key demands of the Union which include the adoption of the Universities Transparency Accountability System UTAS and not limited to the salaries of the striking lecturers which have been stopped since March 2022.
The meeting is expected to put an end to the incessant strike affecting public universities and as well reposition universities across the country.
Earlier, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) said it has reached an agreement with the government to adopt the University Transparency Accountability Solution (UTAS) as the payment platform of lecturers and suspend the strike.
ASUU president Emmanuel Osodeke made the disclosure during an interview with Channels Television.
Osodeke said the federal government invited ASUU for a meeting on Tuesday on the issue of renegotiation to call off the ongoing strike action.
He said ASUU will suspend the strike if the federal government agrees to its demands at today’s meeting.
