Yesterday, the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) officially commenced its National Executive Council (NEC) Meeting in Calabar, Cross River State, with a series of strategic courtesy visits.
The delegation began by visiting the Chief Medical Director of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), *Prof. Ikpeme A. Ikpeme,* a distinguished past President of NARD. This was followed by a visit to the Medical Director of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Calabar, Dr. Theophilus Onyuku, also a past President of ARD-FNPH Calabar.
The team then proceeded to pay homage to the Obong of Calabar, His Eminence Edidem
Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V
before concluding the day with a visit to the Executive Governor of Cross River State Apostle Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu
Speaking on behalf of the NARD President, the First Vice President, Dr. Tadujeen Teejay, delivered an insightful address, highlighting the significance of the visit. The President of the ARD-UCTH and LOC Chairman, Dr. Ogar Emmanuel Idoko, also made remarks, appreciating the governor’s support and emphasizing the theme of this year’s NEC:
“Securing the Future of Medical Practice in Nigeria: Prioritizing Physician Welfare, Training, and Systemic Reform.”

In his response, the Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Cross River State chapter, Dr. Ezoke Epoke, also appreciated the governor for his ongoing support of the medical community.
His Excellency, the Governor, expressed his admiration for NARD’s consistency and professionalism. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the association and promised to do everything within his power to aid its leadership.
The 2025 NARD NEC meeting continues in Calabar with a lineup of impactful sessions, trainings, and deliberations geared toward advancing healthcare in Nigeria.
