American-based Professor and Chairman, Donald Odey Omagu\’s Foundation, Professor Donald Odey Omagu has donated books worth thousands of naira to the University of Calabar library.
Prof. Omagu who was represented by a delegation led by Professor Joseph Ajor said the books were part of his contributions to the University of Calabar to encourage learning and excellence.
Lauding the Vice-Chancellor of the Institution, the Chairman said the University has taken a new dimension of greater excellence under her watch in maintaining excellence and good standards.
Reacting to the good gesture, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Florence Banku Obi commended the Foundation and its Chairman for remembering to give back to the University saying it clearly shows that the good seeds the institution sowed many years ago have germinated and bear good fruits.
The VC who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof. Angela Oyo-Ita also stated that the Foundation\’s gesture also shows that the University is impacting lives while calling on other meaningful alumni of the institution to emulate Prof. Omagu in supporting the growth and development of the University.
The books which are in 5 sets total ninety (90) and are relevant in the fields of History in the 21st century include:
•20 copies of Military Leadership and the Trust Deficit in Nigeria_ 1966 -1999
•20copies of Nigerian Civil War: Narratives from Some Borders Communities
•20 copies of Nigeria\’s Foreign Policy in Historical Context_1960-2015
•20 copies of Regional Peace and Security: A Historical Perspective of the Role of ECOWAS in Liberia and Sierra Leone
•10 copies of A Neglected History: The Bekwarra People of Cross River State and the Civil War.
In attendance was the Director of Administration, Vice Chancellor\’s office, Dr. Citizen Ekpo, and Director of Public Procurement, Mr. Joseph Egbinta, while other members of the delegation include, Mr. Tom Alim, Mr. Cyril Ogakwu, and others.
