The Post-Graduate Student Government (PGSG) of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) has dismissed as false and misleading reports circulating on social media that the PGSG President Adinye Anthony was suspended by the Dean of Student Affairs.
In a public rejoinder issued on Wednesday, the Immediate Past President of the PGSG, Adinye Anthony A. Esq., described the claim as “mischievous, factually incorrect, and a calculated attempt to cause confusion within the university community.”
According to the statement, the PGSG President and the entire executive council were officially dissolved one week ago following the natural expiration of their tenure. Consequently, the rejoinder emphasized that it is legally and administratively impossible to suspend an officer whose mandate has already ended.
“The office in question no longer exists. One cannot suspend a non-existent mandate,” the statement read.
The rejoinder further disclosed that, in line with the PGSG constitution, an Electoral Team has already been constituted to manage the transition to a new leadership.

Reaffirming loyalty to the university authorities, Adinye stated that his allegiance remains with the Vice-Chancellor and the University Management, stressing that the stability and reputation of UNICAL remain paramount.
He also warned that legal action may be taken against those responsible for spreading the false information. According to him, necessary steps will be determined after the return and briefing of the Vice-Chancellor.
The statement added that official documents and correspondence have been attached to the rejoinder, clearly indicating the date the PGSG tenure ended and confirming the dissolution of the executive council.
