The atmosphere was filled with joy as the State Colleges of Nursing in Cross River State expressed gratitude to the Cross River State Government for accessing their budgets for project implementation and for receiving three 32-seater buses to facilitate student transportation for clinical postings.
The Executive Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency, Sen Prince Bassey Otu, while presenting the buses to the colleges, emphasized the importance of investing in healthcare infrastructure and training healthcare professionals. “We are making progress in Cross River State,” he said. “To ensure the effective utilization of our healthcare facilities, we must train nurses and other healthcare professionals.”
The Honorable Commissioner for Health, Dr Henry Ajuk in his remarks, lauded the Governor’s efforts, saying, “The Governor is the face of healthcare in Cross River State. His commitment to improving healthcare delivery is evident in his investments in health infrastructure and personnel. These buses will greatly enhance the clinical training of our nursing students, enabling them to provide quality care to our citizens.”
The Governor’s deliberate support for nursing education and training has brought hope to the colleges, which had struggled to access their budgets and funds for project implementation.
Dr. (Mrs.) Christy Essien Ekpe, Chairman of the Governing Board, College of Nursing Sciences Calabar, expressed gratitude, saying, “Thank you, People First Governor. We can’t thank you enough. It’s been decades since we’ve had access to funds for schools and colleges.”
The event was attended by a host of dignitaries, including the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Ayambem Elvert Ekom , Secretary to the State Government, Prof Anthony Owan Enoh, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Dr Emmanuel Ironbar, Hon Albert, Chairman House Committee on Health, Rt Hon Bisong Hilary Ekpang, CRS Executive council, Special Adviser to the Governor on Nursing Education, Mrs Uduak Efem, Special Assistant to the Governor on Nursing, Mr Coco-Bassey Esu, Provosts and Chairmen of Boards of colleges of Nursing, Director of Nursing Services, Mrs Roseline Obojor Ogar , Comr. Josephine Bassey, State Chairman NANNM CRSC, Political appointees and student nurses.
The Governor’s gesture is a significant milestone in the journey towards improving healthcare delivery in Cross River State.
