PCC Seeks Partnership with Unical to Investigate Law Students\’ Protest

 

The Public Complaints Commission has sought to partner with the University of Calabar to investigate incidents that led to protests by the Law Students Association of Nigeria, University of Calabar Chapter yesterday.

This was made known to newsmen when members of the Commission led by the Honourable Commissioner, Hon. Obi Owan Enoh pays a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Florence Banku Obi on Tuesday in her office.

Hon. Enoh said the partnership has become pertinent owing to trending story in the media on sexual harassment of students and other misdemeanors in order to factor a way out.

Enoh who showered praise on the Vice-Chancellor and the leadership of the institution said they came in a way to help in rebuilding the image of the University thereby soliciting that their members should be part of the committee to investigate and ascertain how true and fair the matter is.

In her response, the Vice-Chancellor lauded the Honourable Commissioner and his Team over the visit, describing the Commission as a veritable institution to partner with.

The VC who immediately approved the request of the commission to be part of the investigating panel hinted that the protesting students dropped a written petition last week Thursday before embarking on a physical demonstration yesterday been Monday.

Prof. Obi also told the Commission that the University Management was already in a meeting with Lecturers and staff of the Faculty before the students came protesting.

Assuring the commission of her commitment, the VC said her Administration will not allow such matter to be swept under the carpet as the allegations will be carefully investigated and anyone found culpable will face the wrath of the law.

The Honourable Commissioner was accompanied in the visit by the Deputy Commissioner, Hon. Charles Agada, Principal investigator, Mr. Eden Okon and others.
