Peter Obi Eases Dentistry Faculty Accreditation Crisis with ₦15 Million Donation

Peter Obi, has donated ₦15 million to the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) to help address its accreditation crisis

The donation aims to support the faculty in meeting global standards and preventing the potential loss of its license to train dental surgeons by July 2025, as warned by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).

Peter Obi Donates ₦15 Million to UNN Dentistry Department to Support Accreditation

According to posts on X, Obi’s contribution is part of a broader target to raise ₦100 million to equip the department with necessary infrastructure and resources to maintain its accreditation and enhance its capacity to train dental professionals.

The faculty, the only one in Nigeria’s South-East region accredited to graduate dental surgeons, faces challenges due to outdated infrastructure, limited clinical training equipment, and insufficient laboratory space, which currently restricts it to graduating only 15 dental surgeons annually.

At this moment, just as Peter Obi has relieved University of Nigeria (UNN) this Accreditation burden, the students from the University of Calabar, who are also facing this same crisis are hopes high with a wish to be in the shoe of UNN
