The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), under the leadership of its National President, Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, has been faced with various challenges. In response, the President, through his spokesperson, Prince Ndiyo Ndiyo, has formally addressed the issues to clear the air and prevent further misconceptions.
In an interview, Prince Ndiyo stated that disputes surrounding the NYCN are not new. He noted recent claims by certain individuals who declared themselves as the National Executive Council, alleging that Amb. Sukubo and his executives had been dissolved, suspended, or expelled. He firmly described these claims as false and non-existent.
Prince Ndiyo explained that the Ministry of Youths had written a letter indicating the expiration of tenure in September. In line with this, the Executive Council led by Amb. Sukubo has already put in place proper arrangements to ensure a smooth transition in September. He highlighted that congresses were held in Port Harcourt where a Congress Planning Committee (CPC) and an Electoral Planning Committee (EPC) were set up to oversee the forthcoming transition congress.

He further dismissed the idea of “critical stakeholders” created by the alleged new executives, stressing that such a body does not exist in the NYCN constitution. According to him, only the Executive Council led by the President or the Board of Trustees is constitutionally empowered to convene meetings.
On the issue of constitutional review, Prince Ndiyo emphasized that there was nothing wrong in reviewing the NYCN constitution, just as the Federal Government reviews its own. He clarified that the review process followed due procedure: a management congress set up the review committee, and another congress adopted the amendments. Not all sections were reviewed, but the process was entirely legitimate and constitutional.

Prince Ndiyo also reminded the public that membership of the NYCN is organizational, not individual, meaning one must belong to a registered youth organization to qualify as a member. He stressed that “dissolution” cannot be declared by unrecognized groups within a span of two months.
In conclusion, he called on the public to disregard distractions and focus on the forthcoming congress in September. He encouraged anyone interested in leadership positions to contest through the congress, which remains the only legitimate avenue.
Prince Ndiyo reassured Nigerians that Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo is fully committed to preserving the integrity of the National Youth Council, as handed down by its founding fathers.
He ended by reaffirming:
“There is no dissolution anywhere, no parallel president anywhere. The only recognized leadership of the NYCN remains Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo and his Executive Council.”
