On this occasion, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Gender Mainstreaming, Utibe-Abasi Orok Bassey-Duke , was invited as one of the guest speakers at the NACRISS UCC 2024 Symposium.

Utibe-Abasi described gender discrimination as\” the unfair treatment of individuals based on their gender, often leading to unequal opportunities, rights, and privileges\”.

Utibe-Abasi highlighted that gender discrimination can be faced by both male and female gender.

In an interactive session, Uitbe-Abasi led the students to identify some of various forms of gender discrimination that exist in their sphere.

Utibe-Abasi did not stop there, she explained how NACRISS as a body could foster gender equality, thereby reducing all forms of gender discrimination.

Utibe Abasi encouraged the females to see the males as their allies in achieving gender equality and the males to advocate for the rights of the females, protect and support them.

Utibe-Abasi further called on NACRISS to create a safe space for both genders to thrive.
