During an esteemed royal gathering held at the revered Obong of Calabar\’s country home, King Jaja of Opobo, one of the few Natural and treaty monarchs in Nigeria, joined the Oku Ibom of Akwa Ibom, represented by the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers, in conveying deep appreciation to the Governor of Cross River for preserving the honor and heritage of the ancient Efik Kingdom.
While lauding the Governor\’s commitment to justice and cultural preservation, the esteemed monarch further extended his appreciation for the Governor\’s dedication to ensuring the rightful affirmation of the Obong of Calabar, His Eminence, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V, KSM;
Natural Ruler, Treaty King, and Grand Patriarch of the Efik Kingdom.
The visiting monarchs also commended the members of the Etuboms Council for standing firm in honour of their ancient traditions saying the story would have been different if they had wavered and decided to sell their birthright. They finally advised all who may have been aggrieved to join hands and help develop the Efik Kingdom.
The Obong of Calabar welcomed King Jaja and the Oku Ibom, along with their respective delegations, in a powerful display of brotherhood and unity. The Obong expressed heartfelt appreciation for the support extended by the South-South Monarchs Forum and the significant role played by King Jaja in leading the delegation to his palace. He pledged to continue to gather, unite and be a father to all Efik people , while also looking out for the well being of others who choose to reside in his Kingdom.
During this Royal gathering, discussions resonated with the shared vision of unity and development for the South-South region. The leaders present, including King Jaja of Opobo and the Chairman of the Supreme Council of Ibibio Traditional Rulers, affirmed their commitment to collaboration and emphasized preserving the region\’s rich cultural heritage.
The Obong of Calabar and the other Monarchs also engaged in meaningful dialogue regarding rebranding the South-South Monarchs Forum. Recognizing the evolving dynamics of the region, the leaders acknowledged the imperative of adapting the forum to serve better the aspirations of the diverse monarchies and people of the South-South.
The historic gathering was a cornerstone for renewed cooperation and synergy among the South-South monarchs, committed to fostering development and prosperity for the entire region.
