The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, has been honoured by the Consul General of the Chinese Embassy in Lagos, Yan Yuging, for his outstanding leadership and efforts in strengthening partnerships between Cross River State and the Chinese government.
The recognition came after the just-concluded China-Africa Training Course on Ocean Governance, where the Cross River Assembly was rated the most performing legislature. As part of the honour, the Consul General offered 10 additional training slots for Cross River lawmakers to participate in the next Ocean Governance programme in China.
Reacting to the recognition, Speaker Ayambem expressed profound gratitude, describing it as a milestone not only for him but also for the people of Cross River State.
“Thank you to the Consul General of the Chinese Embassy for this huge recognition in Lagos. I am also grateful for the increased opportunities you have offered us in the Cross River State Legislature under my leadership. This honour reflects the fruitful relationship between our state and the Chinese government,” Ayambem stated.
The Speaker pledged that the Assembly, working in synergy with Governor Bassey Edet Otu’s People First agenda, will continue to expand cooperation with China in key sectors such as trade, infrastructure, education, and technology.
He noted that the recognition would pave the way for Cross River to attract more socio-economic opportunities, boosting development and ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach the grassroots.
