The outcome of Unical SUG president visit to the VC on recent school challenges

 

The Students\’ Union Government President, Comr. Tyron Bassey had today visited the Vice Chancellor of the University at about 6 am with the director of information, Director of Social, and his Chief of Staff to discuss and proffer a lasting solution to the alarming situation on campus regarding the semester examination.

In response to the visit of the SUG, the Vice Chancellor swiftly welcomed the Student Leaders and called for an emergency tour around the University examination halls with the following people (in no particular order) the Chief of Staff to the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Director of Academic Planning, Director of EDC, Dean Students\’ Affairs, Director Of CES, Deputy Director of CGS, Members of the Executive Council of the SUG who were present, among other members of the Vice Chancellor entourage and the management team.

The tour around the Examination Venue yielded numerous fruits as it brought with itself many opportunities for students\’ problems to be directly solved by the Vice Chancellor. Among these were the opportunities created for interactions between the Vice Chancellor and the students, Taking direct participation in monitoring the commencement of Exams as allocated in the timetable. She directly solved the problems of students who were having registration issues, and immediately demanded the opening of halls that were locked and not in use for the Examination among others.

The impact of the tour was felt by the students because it tolled the line of our expectations as it also paved the way for the proper decision to be made as it concerns the semester examination.

In essence, It was however resolved that for a smooth running of the semester examination, individual departments should prepare their examination timetable considering the peculiarities associated with their department to curb the issue of clustered courses and overlapping of credit load of exams daily on the students.

It is believed that this will solve the current situation and give way to a hitch-free semester examination for our dear students.

In the same vein, Students are advised to keep to the university guidelines as it concerns the deadline for payment of fees and registration of courses online to prevent further occurrences in subsequent examinations.

The Students Union Government Executive Council is however appealing to all students to take their academic pursuits seriously as it is the primary source of why they are in the University.

In conclusion, we apologize to our dear students who are been affected and assure them that the SUG will keep working to deliver a quality service to all students in the University community.
