Students of the University of Calabar has commended the Vice Chancellor of the Institution, Prof. Florence Banku Obi and her entire Management Team for her students oriented policies and developmental strides thus far. The students who made this known through their various social media handles laments that they misunderstood the VC for a \’step mother\’ at the inception of her Administration without actually knowing her true intentions for them and the University.
According to them, the notion of \’step mother\’ was inspired by the Nigerian nollywood movies as most step mothers characters often maltreats their mates children. The concept came in 2021 barely one year she took over the mantle of leadership of the Institution and moved to increase the school charges.
To Ephraim Reuben, \”VC was misunderstood by virtually all students and lecturers alike at the onset, but she was resilient in her policies regardless. She has proved us wrong and I\’m sure everyone is benefiting in one way or the other today.
\”We no longer hear that a student has been withdrawn in 200level without his/her knowledge while coming for final clearance after graduation\”.
VC has done surprisingly well. We almost thought she was on the move to kill us in 2021\”. He added.
Describing the University as Heaven, Prince Otu said, \”seriously VC has surprised all of us. Who would have thought of studying in Heaven? These days, I move around Unical with sweetness and boldness\”.
Queen Patience Nnyenime wrote, \”the aspect of uploading results and school fees payment is a smart move. I never saw that coming. She\’s no longer a \’step mother, she\’s now a good mother
\”Earnestly, I didn\’t believe I could see my February exams results in April online. She\’s a great woman and may God bless her.
Outlining some of the Vice Chancellor\’s achievements, a former students Union leader, Emmanuel Peter said he had the conviction from onset that the Vice Chancellor will do greatly.
\”From onset, I told people around me that the VC will do well having worked closely with her as SUG Director of Welfare while she was DVC Academics, but many didn\’t believe me.
\”Today, Unical can pride itself as a digital higher Institution of learning in Nigeria with the introduction of online classes and wiFi all over its environmental courtesy of Prof. Florence Banku Obi.
\”As a graduate, I see my alma mater with good road networks, improved academic curriculum, excellent lecture halls and hostels, clean and beautiful environment, to mention but a few. 2 more years left for her administration to go, wait for more\”,
He added.
Prof. Obi who assumed office in December 31st, 2020 as the first female and 11th Vice Chancellor of the institution after about 45years of its establishment has been praised by many to have raised the bar in the mantle of leadership of the institution.
