Unical VC receives Team from CHAMPS

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, has received a team from the Child Health And Mortality Prevention Surveillance (CHAMPS); a health research team with the objective to prevent children\’s death and find out causes of child\’s mortality under the age of five.

The organization which was led by her national coordinator, Prof. Iwara Arikpo, outlined that the objectives of the organization are to: find out the causes of death among children under the age of five, gather data and develop data for more programs, conduct survey on pregnancy and mortality rate and find out from local communities what they value and seen as norms and gather information that are important laboratory data among others.

The organisation\’s international Director, Dr. John Blevinse, noted that the University of Calabar and Bauchi have been their strong partners as they\’ve spent about four days on community entry and sensitization in Calabar on arrival.

In a swift reaction, Prof. Obi commended the team for their research, while noting that as a multidisciplinary organization, at the end of their research, the sociocultural behavior of the people they met with would help in mortality reduction especially in Africa.

The Vice Chancellor also used the opportunity to congratulate the Unical Team for recently winning the research grant.
