WIKE BLASTS ANTI ZONING CAMPAIGNERS: SAYS THEY ARE SELFISH.
The Back to South campaign got a boast from no less a personality than His Excellency the Governor of Rivers State Ezenwo Nyesom Wike. Speaking on live television on Channels\’ Politics Today, the Governor maintained that there has always been zoning in our nation\’s politics. In fact, His Excellency said he abhors anyone who says there should not be zoning or that there is no zoning.
Citing the Constitution of the PDP in Article 7, sub section 3c, Governor Wike said the the party\’s position on rotation of party offices and elective offices is very clear and unambiguous. He extolled the sterling wisdom of the founding fathers of the PDP, who according to him \”… knew the complexity and diversity of our country and made sure that for equity, for fairness, for justice, rotation should be done\”. That is why in 2017 the Party agreed to zone the presidency to the North and as a result no Southerner bought nomination forms for that Election in 2019.
Governor Nyesom Wike admonished that people should not hide behind inordinate ambition to deny the existence of zoning and it\’s humongous advantage to our political unity. In his words, \”I can not because of my aspirations deny certain things that had happened, certain things that were agreeable … We must also say the truth … It is not only PDP that zones but APC is zoning too\” According to him truth brings him life and he will always stand by the truth of zoning, his ambition not withstanding.
Furthermore, he frowned at elements in the Party who out of selfishness and insincerity propound that zoning should be jettisoned for the best candidate. For him the best can be gotten from any part of the country. No part has the monopoly of \’the best\’. He said it is wrong to say zoning should stop because one is running elections. People should learn to be sincere and abide by the norms, Constitution and conventions of the party.
While Governor Wike blasts anti zoning said he is a gentleman who has high regards and respect for simple agreements whether they be written or unwritten. Therefore, \”If the party zones the presidency to the North, I have no problem. I will obey the party and not run again. What I don\’t agree is for people to say that there shouldn\’t be zoning … this is not America or Europe …\” His candid advice to all aspirants in all elections is that when party decisions does not go their way, they should not jettison previous agreements and leave the party but stick with the party faithfully and work for its victory.
