October 16th has been set aside as a day to celebrate World Food Day, where farmers and agricultural groups tend to celebrate the importance of their labor as well as reaching out to the vulnerable with their products.
Cross River State couldn’t be left out to acknowledge this wonderful world food day, as His Excellency Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu has always put Cross Riverians at heart.
Through the office of Miss Agriculture Nigeria, Miss Maryanne Ewah, in collaboration with the digital farmers group, Cross River State has set out food items such as rice,yam,beans, plantains, bananas,fabrics,cooking oil, noodles, etc. to celebrate with Cross Riverians and to enlighten them of the importance of seeing agriculture as the gateway to surviving.
A key note address was received by the deputy chairman of the National Youth Council Cross River State, Engr. Joel Henshaw, on behalf of the state chairman, Comr. Dan Obo Jr.

Joel Henshaw first of all appreciates his excellency, the Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Bassey Otu, for joining the world to celebrate World Food Day in Cross River State. He also applauds all groups and agricultural bodies that enable this event to become a reality in the state.
Joel also calls on the farmers of the state to never relent in doing what is good and what will quench hunger in the land. He further encourages every cross-riverians, irrespective of your portfolio, to see agriculture as a first tool in saving lives.
He also urges the youths of Cross River State to venture into agriculture, noting that food is the aim of everyone\’s struggle, and if food is everywhere, life becomes easier. He also called on the public to celebrate all farmers with applause.
