The Ogun State All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has revealed the role he had planned for late veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, widely known as Ogogo, if he wins the 2027 governorship election.
Adeola made the disclosure on Tuesday during a condolence visit to the family of the late actor in Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The senator said Ogogo would have been appointed as his Special Adviser on Tourism and Culture, citing the actor’s contributions to the creative industry, Yoruba culture and the preservation of the state’s cultural heritage.
Adeola described the deceased actor as an elder brother and expressed sadness over his passing, while commending his impact on the Nigerian film industry and his role in promoting Yoruba traditions through his work.
According to him, Ogogo’s influence extended beyond acting, as he had become an important figure in the promotion and preservation of Yoruba cultural values.
The APC candidate said the planned appointment reflected the confidence he had in Ogogo’s experience, knowledge of the creative sector and ability to contribute to the development of tourism and culture in Ogun State.
Ogogo, who was celebrated for his long-standing career in Yoruba-language films, died recently, leaving colleagues, fans and members of his community mourning his death.
Adeola’s disclosure adds a political dimension to the tributes surrounding the late actor, revealing that he had been considered for a government role ahead of the 2027 election.
