In a Significant move to boost healthcare development, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Nursing, Mr. Coco-Bassey Esu, has paid a significant one-day visit to Obubra General Hospital, aimed at boosting healthcare development in the state. During the visit, Mr. Esu commended the hospital’s health workers for their dedication to patient care, despite the existing staff strength.
Mr. Esu assured the health workers that the government is committed to boosting staff strength, citing the recent directive by His Excellency, Sen Prince Bassey Edet Otu, to employ Nurses and other health workers. This move is expected to address the issue of burnout syndrome and enhance the overall quality of healthcare delivery.
A key highlight of the visit was the directive to reactivate clinical posting for students of the College of Nursing, Itigidi. Mr. Esu emphasized the importance of students resuming clinical training and community services posting at the hospital, citing the diverse cases handled by the hospital as a valuable learning experience.
The Medical Superintendent, Dr. Ogban Francis, expressed his commitment to providing 24-hour services and collaboration with clinical Nurses in the training of student nurses. He assured that the hospital would fix quarters for student accommodation to facilitate their training and comfort.
The Head of Nursing Services, Mr. Agara Ferdinand Agara, also reaffirmed the nurses’ commitment to patient care and training of students.
The visit demonstrated the government’s presence in the Obubra General hospital, following a prior visit by the Honorable Commissioner of Health, Dr. Henry Ajuk. The reactivation of clinical posting for students is expected to enhance their learning experience and contribute to the development of competent healthcare professionals in the state.
This development is a significant step towards improving healthcare delivery in Cross River State, underscoring the government’s commitment to investing in the future of healthcare professionals.
