Cross River Police Impound 25 Vehicles, List Key Guidelines To Follow

The Cross River State Police Command has impounded 25 vehicles in Calabar as part of an ongoing statewide enforcement exercise targeting vehicles operating without valid registration plates or using altered, covered, defaced, or unauthorized dealer number plates.

The operation, conducted on July 3, 2026, follows the nationwide directive issued by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at improving public safety and curbing criminal activities linked to improperly identified vehicles.

25 Vehicles Intercepted, Offenders Face Prosecution

According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, the Command intercepted 25 vehicles within the Calabar Metropolis found to be in violation of the directive.

The affected motorists have been subjected to the necessary administrative and legal procedures and are being prosecuted in accordance with the relevant provisions of the law.

Enforcement Targets Criminal Activities

The Police Command explained that the exercise is designed to:

  • Improve vehicle identification across the state.
  • Enhance public safety and security.
  • Prevent criminals from exploiting unregistered or concealed vehicles to evade law enforcement.
  • Enforce compliance with existing traffic and vehicle registration regulations.

The Command emphasized that vehicles operating without proper registration plates, using covered or altered plates, or displaying unauthorized dealer plates will continue to be apprehended.

Police Urge Residents to Comply

The Cross River State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to intelligence-led, proactive, and community-focused policing, stressing that the enforcement operation will continue across all parts of the state.

Motorists and vehicle owners are advised to ensure their vehicles comply with all registration requirements to avoid arrest, prosecution, or impoundment.
