The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Banku Obi has advised newly admitted students not to involve themselves in conducts inimical to their studies as the University will not hesitate to send them away.
Obi stated this on Thursday while addressing the new students at the institution\’s 2022/2023 Freshers Orientation held at the University International Conference Centre.

Advising the students to be of good behavior, character and hardworking in their academic journey, the VC said, \”you must be worthy Ambassadors of the institution both in learning and character. The degree is in character and learning and character comes first. If you are not worthy in character, we\’ll not hesitate to send you packing. Respect your Lecturers and fellow students. Don\’t fight. If your colleague(s) slaps you, report he/she. Be guided by the students handbook given to you
\”To sustain your studentship on campus, you must shun all vices including examination malpractice, cultism, stealing and other deviant behaviours
\”Focus on why you are here and set priority from the onset. Don\’t allow anyone including the old students to deceive you, you can be the best. University of Calabar have produced a lot of local and international scholars, top administrators and leaders at the highest echelons. You could be one soonest.
Also, admonishing the students to comport themselves with dignity as that will differentiate them from others, she said
\”You are not here to play. Take your studies seriously. We are aware of the bad ones in the system, but nobody frustrate a serious student.
\”Read your books. Textbooks are important, but no one should force you to buy one. But, if you report to me that you don\’t have money to buy texts, I\’ll as well assess you from head to toe, if you are worthy, you must buy your texts.
Reiterating her Administration\’s readiness and open door to students, Prof. Obi said her Administration is always open to listen, but students must live up to expectations. You can remember some weeks ago, we returned some monies to students who were extorted. Don\’t pay for anything without approval.
