The Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Mobilization, Comr. Dan Obo Jnr, who served as the chairman of the occasion, warmly welcomed everyone present. He highlighted the importance of Betem Liberation Day, emphasizing its deep historical and cultural relevance to the Betem community.

His Royal Highness, Obort Engr. Onda I. Onda Ezenghe, a revered historian and the Clan Head of Ehom/Betem Clan, recounted the community’s history. He likened the celebration to the biblical song of Moses, symbolizing gratitude for liberation and freedom. He explained that the event honors the peace and freedom achieved after a period of strife and called for continuous love and harmony within the community.

As part of the celebration, His Royal Highness and the Betem Traditional Rulers Council conferred prestigious chieftaincy titles on notable individuals who have significantly contributed to the community’s growth and development.

1. Comr. Dan Obo Jnr. was honored with the title “Iyong Deh Ebeteng” (meaning “The Ears of Betem”) for his commitment to youth mobilization and community service. Henceforth, he shall be addressed as Chief Dan Obo, with all rights and privileges attached to the title in accordance with Betem’s customs.

2. Engr. Maurice Ekong Special Assistant on Public Relations received the title “Ozol Geh Ebeteng” in recognition of his contributions to the community.

3. Hon. Oden Ewa, Commissioner for Special Duties Cross River State was also honored by the Betem Traditional Rulers Council for his significant role in the community.
