In a significant push for women’s development, Bishop Mrs. Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, the Wife of the Governor, has emphasized the importance of technical skills training for young individuals. Represented by Dr. Grace Oko at the Grand Opening of the Tech Skills Training Programme (TSTP), she commended the initiative, highlighting its alignment with Her Excellency’s STEM initiative.
The TSTP, organized by Women In Action for Positive Development and Gender Enhancement Centre (WAPDAGEC) with support from Innocent Chukwuemeka Chukwuma Empowerment Foundation (ICCEF), aims to empower students and graduates with essential digital skills. The program offers hands-on training in Graphic Design, Data Analytics, Web Development, and Digital Marketing, enhancing employability, creativity, and career opportunities in the digital field.
Dr. Oko stressed the need for a balanced approach, providing equal opportunities for both genders to excel. She encouraged the trainees to seize the opportunity to learn and grow, as their newfound skills would benefit not only themselves but also their communities and the nation.
Prof. Lady Robito Ekpiken-Ekanam, Founder/Executive Director, and, the organizer of the event, welcomed everyone and expressed her gratitude to Her Excellency, Bishop EyoAnwan Bassey Otu and the partners involved.
Prof. Ekpiken-Ekanem explained that,WAPDAGEC started as Women Action Organization (WAO) on 1st November, 1995 after she returned from the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing,China to promote gender equality and,women and girls’ empowerment as well as campaign for gendered environmental and climate justice through various initiatives. WAO was later changed to WAPDAGEC during the CAC registration on 21st May , 2010.
Prof. Lady Ekpiken-Ekanem stated that “the project marks a significant milestone in our journey to empower young individuals, especially, girls, with the technical skills necessary to succeed in the digital age. Our program offers hands-on training in Graphic Design, Data Analytics, Web Development, and Digital Marketing, all designed to enhance employability, creativity, and career opportunities”.
