Carnival Calabar: Cross River Declares December 27 and 31 Work-Free Days

To foster full participation in its flagship tourism event, Carnival Calabar, the Cross River State Government has declared Friday, December 27, and Tuesday, December 31, 2024, as work-free days for civil and public servants.

The announcement aligns with the state’s policy of promoting active involvement in the globally renowned carnival, which has become a key cultural and tourism highlight. Friday, December 27, is reserved for the Junior Carnival Parade, while Tuesday, December 31, marks a special day leading into New Year’s celebrations on January 1, 2025, which has already been declared a federal public holiday.

Civil and public servants are expected to report to their duty posts as usual on dates not specifically mentioned as work-free.

The Government also announced plans to manage vehicular movement during the main Carnival Calabar event on Saturday, December 28. Vehicular traffic will be restricted within the 12-kilometer carnival routes in Calabar metropolis. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes, as vehicles will not be permitted along the designated carnival areas to ensure a smooth and secure celebration.

Governor Otu also extended his warm greetings to residents and visitors celebrating the yuletide season in Cross River. He expressed heartfelt wishes for a joyous and prosperous New Year in 2025. The declaration underscores the administration’s commitment to celebrating and promoting Cross River’s vibrant cultural heritage while ensuring residents and visitors alike enjoy a festive and memorable holiday season.
