Oden Ewa Showcases Climate Leadership at COP30 Local Leaders Forum in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

The Cross River State Government has once again demonstrated its strong commitment to global climate action as Hon. Oden Ewa represented His Excellency, Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, Governor of Cross River State, at the COP30 Local Leaders Forum, Pre-COP 30 Governors’ Roundtable held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The prestigious event, hosted by Bloomberg Philanthropies and the Under2 Coalition, brought together forward-thinking subnational leaders from around the world to discuss strategies for advancing sustainable growth, reducing carbon emissions, and shaping the next decade of impactful climate action.

Speaking at the forum, Hon. Oden Ewa highlighted Cross River State’s green ambitions and reaffirmed the state’s leadership in environmental sustainability and conservation. He emphasized that under Governor Otu’s People’s Firstadministration, Cross River is prioritizing renewable energy, sustainable forestry, and eco-tourism as key drivers of economic growth and resilience.

The Under2 Coalition, representing more than 1.75 billion people and half of the world’s economy, continues to play a critical role in mobilizing bold, practical solutions toward achieving net-zero emissions by mid-century. Cross River State remains an active and committed member of this global coalition, contributing its experience and innovation in tropical forest conservation and low-carbon development.

Hon. Ewa expressed gratitude to Bloomberg Philanthropies, the Climate Group, and fellow leaders for a productive and inspiring session, reaffirming Cross River State’s readiness to lead the charge in sustainable climate governance across Africa.
