The Kogi State House of Assembly has been plunged into mourning following the passing of its immediate past Deputy Speaker, Hon. Enema Paul.

What Killed the Speaker?

A beacon of dedication and service, Hon. Paul breathed his last in the early hours of Saturday, 14th December 2024. At a private hospital in Abuja after a prolonged battle with an undisclosed illness.

Until his demise, Hon. Paul represented the Okura State Constituency in the 8th Assembly and was serving his second term.

His health struggles had compelled him to step down as Deputy Speaker, a role he carried out with distinction.

He was succeeded by Hon. Comfort Nwuchola of the Ibaji State Constituency.

 

Who Confirmed Him Dead?

In a heartfelt statement, the Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Aliyu Yusuf, confirmed the tragic news through his Chief Press Secretary, Mohammed Yabagi.

Reflecting on Hon. Paul’s life and contributions, the Speaker described him as a compassionate and humble man.

Paul’s unwavering commitment to unity and progress left an indelible mark on the Assembly and the people of Kogi State.

According to Yusuf,

“The former Deputy Speaker was not just a colleague but a friend. His temperance, humility, and dedication to teamwork made him a respected figure in this House. He was a Christian whose faith transcended religious divides and who upheld the values of godliness and family with profound sincerity.”

The Speaker extended his deepest condolences to Hon. Paul’s family, friends, and colleagues, praying that they find the strength to endure this painful loss.

The Government of Kogi State also mourned Hon. Paul’s passing.

In a condolence message by the State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, the government described the late legislator as a stalwart of progress and unity.

Fanwo said.

“The Government of Kogi State grieves for the loss of Hon. Enema Paul, whose life was tragically cut by a protracted illness. Hon. Paul was a man of integrity and dedication who devoted himself to serving the people of our state. May his memory remain a source of inspiration to all who knew him, and may we honor his legacy by continuing the work he so passionately believed in.”

Hon. Paul’s contributions to the state were many. Beyond his role as a legislator, he previously served as Commissioner for Rural Development.

He held various other positions of trust, always advocating for initiatives that prioritized the welfare of Kogi’s people.

The State’s Executive Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, expressed his profound sadness over the loss.

He called it an irreparable blow to the family and people of Dekina Local Government Area., and to  Kogi State as a whole.

“Hon. Paul’s death is a heavy burden for all of us to bear,” the Governor lamented. “He was a leader whose vision for a united and prosperous Kogi State inspired many. His legacy of selfless service and unwavering dedication will not be forgotten.”

The government assured Hon. Paul’s family of their unwavering support during this heartbreaking time. As they prayed for his soul’s peaceful repose.

The Kogi State House of Assembly, his constituents, and the entire state mourn the departure of a man whose life epitomized service, humility, and love for his people.
