The frontline aspirant for the Chairmanship of Obudu Local Government Area, Engr. Prof. Godwin Akeke, has taken a significant step forward in his political journey. Over the weekend, he embarked on an extensive consultation tour, meeting with key stakeholders and obtaining their blessings to officially run for the Chairmanship of Obudu LGA. The consultations included visits to his immediate community of Ohong, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chapter executives, as well as chiefs and stakeholders from the Utukalu region, all of whom expressed their support for his candidacy.
Prof. Akeke’s consultation tour began in his hometown of Ohong community in Begiading ward where he acknowledged the importance of seeking the blessings of his community before embarking on the journey ahead. During his visit, he emphasized the value of unity and community endorsement, stating that his success would be rooted in the support of his people. The chiefs, youth, and women of Ohong responded with overwhelming affirmation, offering their full backing and prayers for his success. They declared that no obstacles would stand in his way, recognizing his history of service and leadership, and pledged their unwavering support for his campaign.
From Ohong, Prof. Godwin Akeke moved to the palace of the Paramount Ruler of Obudu, His Royal Majesty, Utsu Felix Ukudare (Utsu Bette 1 of Obudu), in Ibong village, Angiaba/Begiaka ward. In a significant show of support, the paramount ruler warmly received him, offering his blessings and advice. Utsu Ukudare encouraged Prof. Akeke to stay focused and consult widely, reminding him that true power comes from God. He expressed confidence that, as a God-fearing man and a son of the soil, Prof. Akeke would make a good leader if chosen by the people, urging him to continue his path with humility and faith.
The next stop on Prof. Akeke’s consultation tour was Utukalu, where he met with traditional leaders and critical party stakeholders. His first visit in Utukalu was to Ukalu (Ukpe and Alege wards), where he humbly presented himself before the chiefs, youth, and women of the community. Prof. Akeke emphasized his commitment to inclusive governance and sought their blessings and support. In response, the Clan heads and chiefs of Ukalu welcomed him with open arms, expressing their approval and encouragement. They praised his achievements in civil service and acknowledged the significance of his willingness to serve the people of Obudu despite his professional accomplishments.
In Utugwang, Prof. Akeke was received by Chief P.J. Ekunke, traditional rulers, and party leaders. They hailed his ambition as a blessing for the people of Obudu, noting that his vast achievements in civil service and his distinguished academic career have prepared him for this leadership role. The chiefs and traditional rulers expressed their confidence in his ability to lead, commending him for remaining humble and grounded despite his many successes. The people of Utugwang reaffirmed their support for his candidacy, declaring that his leadership would bring much-needed progress to Obudu.
Prof. Akeke also held consultations with the APC Chapter Executives, led by Chapter Chairman Mr. Henry Ublibli, where he formally declared his intention to run for Chairmanship. He assured them that his administration would align with the ideologies of the APC, particularly the “people-first” agenda of the Senator Prince Bassey Otu’s government. Prof. Akeke pledged to lead an inclusive government that would prioritize the needs and aspirations of the people, promising to keep the party’s vision at the core of his administration.
In every community and stakeholder group he visited, Prof. Godwin Akeke delivered a consistent message. He promised to be a Chairman who will be connected to the people, understanding their daily struggles and sharing in their common goals. Prof. Akeke highlighted the infrastructural deficit in Obudu and stated that he has a clear blueprint that will address the most pressing challenges. He assured the people that, if elected, his administration would focus on improving infrastructure, creating sustainable development, and fostering an environment where diverse ideas and constructive criticism are welcomed.
With the blessings of the elders, community members, and key political stakeholders, Prof. Godwin Akeke’s candidacy is now officially set in motion.
