Hon. Edodi Eyong Edodi Wins LOGMA 2025 Award for Most Outstanding Local Government Chairman in Projects

The Executive Chairman of Biase Local Government Area (LGA) Hon. Edodi Eyong Edodi emerged Best LG Chairman (Project) at the Local Government Merit Award (LOGMA) which held at the National Merit House in Maitama, Abuja. Hon. Edodi who emerged after a tedious monitoring and evaluation exercise I presented an accolade in recognition of the outstanding performance and transformative contributions to the development of Biase LGA.

In his acceptance speech, Hon. Edodi expressed deep gratitude to God for the achievement and thanked His Excellency, Apostle Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, the Governor of Cross River State, and the people of Biase for their trust and support. “I sincerely thank God Almighty for making this day possible. I also extend my gratitude to the Governor and the good people of Biase for giving me the opportunity to serve,” he said.

The Chairman acknowledged the unquantifiable support of his Vice Chairman, Hon. (Chief) Ekuma Ngwu JP, elected officials, political appointees, stakeholders, and the Biase community. “I must commend my Vice Chairman, Hon. (Chief) Ekuma Ngwu JP, and all elected officials, appointees, stakeholders, and the general public of Biase for their steadfast commitment to my administration,” he added.

Hon. Edodi attributed the award to his administration’s focus on good governance, emphasizing key priorities such as expanding infrastructure, improving quality education, enhancing security networks, and promoting economic empowerment programs across Biase. These developmental strides were instrumental in securing his nomination and recognition as Nigeria’s Best Local Government Chairman in Projects. Accompanying Hon. Edodi at the ceremony were his wife, Mrs. Stella Edodi Eyong, Vice Chairman Hon. (Chief) Ekuma Ngwu JP, Hon. Egwu Egeh Umet, leader of the Biase 8 Legislative Assembly, and other key officials from Biase LGA.

Some of the Projects Executed in Biase LGA between November 2024 – October 2025 includeed the painting of the Council Gate, Fence, and Executive Blocks, as well as the renovation and furnishing of the Executive Chairman’s Office to improve administrative aesthetics and functionality. Significant construction efforts involved building a double box culvert (1.5×1.5×11m) in Egbor Community, Erei North Ward, and 144 units of open market shade in Abini Community, Akpet Abini Ward. Additionally, nine solar-powered boreholes were constructed across multiple communities, including Abini Market, Abanwan, Ibini, Umuolor, Ipene, Afono, and FOB Camp Urugbam, alongside the rehabilitation of a solar-powered borehole at the Council Secretariat. The grading of the Abini/Agwagune Bye-Pass Road and the construction of open market shades in Ibogo, Akparavuni, Betem, and Iwuru communities further supported local commerce and connectivity.

Other social and educational initiatives were also prioritized to foster community empowerment and development. A medical outreach was conducted in commemoration of World AIDS Day 2025, promoting health awareness. Educational infrastructure saw improvements through the reconstruction of an abandoned four-classroom block at Community Primary School, Adim, and the rehabilitation of three classroom blocks, an office, and a store at Community Primary School, Betem. Empowerment programs included training and support for 300 young women across Biase LGA’s 11 wards, alongside scholarships of N200,000 and N250,000 awarded to 120 indigent and deserving undergraduate and postgraduate students. Further community support was provided through teacher and pupil empowerment during Children’s and Independence Day celebrations, as well as peace and conflict resolution efforts between warring communities, contributing to social cohesion and development across the LGA.
