Muslims in Cross River State have been urged to continually pray for the peace and progress of the state, protect its people, and expose criminal elements who may attempt to exploit the peaceful and accommodating nature of residents.
The call was made during a State Prayer Session organized by the Muslim community across mosques in the 18 local government areas of Cross River State.

Delivering his sermon, the Imam of Calabar Central Mosque, Imam Akere Abdullafeez, emphasized that Islam places a strong responsibility on Muslims to protect their non-Muslim neighbours. He noted that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) condemned all forms of religious violence and killings, stressing peaceful coexistence as a core Islamic value.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman, Cross River State Muslim Welfare and Pilgrims Board, Imam Kabeer Olowolayemo, reiterated that praying for one’s community is an act of faith. He also cautioned against the spread of false information, urging Muslims to verify issues concerning their fellow citizens before reacting.
Also addressing the gathering, Sas Gambo, President of Paradise City Parasoka, pledged his support in mobilizing individuals and organizations to promote peace across the state. He assured that efforts would be made to expose anyone planning to disrupt the peace of Cross River State to the appropriate authorities.
Commending the Muslim community for the initiative, the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Erasmus Ekpang, who attended the prayer session, assured them of the state government’s support. He, however, advised the community to properly profile new entrants into the state, promote tolerance, and promptly report suspicious or criminal activities to security agencies.
Other members of the Muslim community reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining peace and harmony, noting that Cross River State has remained an accommodating and peaceful environment for all residents, irrespective of religious differences.
