National Sports Festival Torch: Cross River Becomes First South-South State to Welcomes National Delegation

Cross River State proudly became the first South-South state to raise the National Sports Festival Torch, symbolizing awareness and unity ahead of the upcoming festival scheduled to take place across Nigeria.

The delegation from the National Sports Commission, led by Mrs. Ikana Mbora, arrived in Calabar to officially kick off the National Sports Festival Torch tour in the South-South zone. According to Mrs. Ikana, the torch has already toured various geopolitical zones across the country, with the South-East being the only region left. From Cross River, the torch will proceed to Akwa Ibom State as the tour continues.

The Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, warmly received the delegation on behalf of the state. He reassured the team that all athletes from Cross River will be well-prepared and supported, expressing confidence that the state will return stronger and achieve outstanding results—including bringing home gold medals.
