Nigeria Sex Workers Association cry out Government for protection.
The Nigeria Sex Workers Association (NSWA) has made a passionate appeal to the federal government.
Soliciting for the protection of its members from harassment, abuse, and violence.
NSWA made the appeal in a statement by its National Coordinator, Amaka Enemo.
Statement made available on Tuesday in Lagos.
Enemo said that recent reports indicate a disturbing rise in physical assaults, harassment, and extortion of sex workers.
Extrortion done by both clients and law enforcement officials.
She urged law enforcement agencies to recognise their humanity and protect them from violence and abuse.

The association’s national coordinator, Amaka Enemo, emphasized that they are not criminals.
Rather individuals, individual with equal rights who deserve protection and dignity.
Complains about Rising Violence and Abuse.
Recent reports indicate a disturbing increase in physical assaults, harassment, and extortion by clients and law enforcement officials.
Enemo urged law enforcement agencies to recognize the humanity of workers and protect them from violence and abuse .
Demand for Rights and Protection.
The NSWA demands that the government take prompt measures to ensure their safety and well-being.
This includes comprehensive training for law enforcement officials, creating safe reporting mechanisms, and holding personnel accountable for acts of violence or discrimination.
Combating Stigma and Discrimination Against Sex Workers in Nigeria.
The association also calls for public awareness campaigns to combat stigma and discrimination against workers.
Enemo emphasized that sex workers deserve to work in safety and live free from fear.
A Call to Action.
The NSWA urges stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and the public, to work together to fight the injustice and indignity meted out to workers.
It is time for the voices of sex workers to be heard and their rights respected.
